Worked through your financial details?

Report Non UW/Private Financial Aid

You are required to notify us if you receive any type of financial aid not already listed as part of your financial aid.

In your My UW Student Center, under the Financial aid tile, look for Private Aid. Click the green Report Private Aid button, which will open a new window to report the details and click Submit.

Student Account eBill

You’ll get an email from the Bursar’s Office when your student account bill is ready to view online, typically in mid-August for the fall term. The bill (also known as an eBill) is published and viewed in your My UW Student Center. You’ll always see this eBill before your financial aid is disbursed, but it will show your financial aid as “anticipated aid.”

Financial aid Disbursement & Refunds

Federal regulations restrict our disbursement of financial aid until 10 days before classes begin each fall and spring semester. If that day falls on a weekend/holiday, which is common, financial aid will disburse at the end of the next business day. Your financial aid will first be applied to your tuition, and then your housing and meal plan balance (if you live in university housing). Any remaining financial aid will be refunded to you.

Refunds from your fall financial aid are expected to begin going out on August 27th. Be sure to budget these funds for the entire fall semester. If you need help with budgeting, don’t hesitate to reach out!

Enroll in eRefund

It’s free, safe and confidential, and allows you quick and easy access to your financial aid refund. Paper checks are only processed once a week; eRefunds are processed daily and arrive in your bank account in 1-3 business days!

  • Log in to your MyUW Student Center and select “Financial Account”
  • Navigate to the eRefund (Direct Deposit) section and select “Manage eRefund Enrollment” to access the Student Account eBilling/ePayment site
  • Select your name to view your profile (upper left-hand corner)
  • Under “Direct Deposit Refunds” select Sign Up and follow the prompts to add your bank account details and click “Complete!”

If you have questions about getting enrolled in eRefunds, you can reach out to the team at the Bursar’s Office, tuition@bussvc.wisc.edu.

Checking/Saving Accounts

  • If you already have a checking/saving account with a bank or credit union – make sure to check with them about your move to Madison and if there are ATMs and other services you can still access without additional fees.
  • If you do not have a checking/saving account, there are many options to choose from. UW Credit Union is the preferred financial partner of UW-Madison so they have a branch in Union South and ATMs around campus, but you can choose any from any bank or credit union that works best for you. This useful article from the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau can help you get started.

Started thinking about working while a student? Do you have Federal Work-Study?

Visit the UW Student Jobs website to find hundreds of job opportunities and it’s updated daily! Though jobs are posted throughout the year, the majority start going up in August and September.

Work-Study can be earned from any position offered at UW-Madison. You may also earn your Work-Study from a position at some local non-profit organizations and small businesses within the state of Wisconsin. Visit the Federal Work-Study page to learn more.

Been checking your wisc.edu email?

Considered what you’ll need to bring to campus?

This is a partial list of items that Bucky put together and you may consider bringing to UW-Madison. But ultimately bring what feels right to you. For example, not everyone uses a bike to get around campus. Also remember that many things you forget can always be purchased once you’re here – there are a variety of shopping options within walking distance or short bus ride from campus. And the joy of online shopping, you can have needed items shipped directly to your new home!

The Parent & Family Program also has some recommendations on what to bring to campus.

If you need help getting some of these items, we’ve got donors that can help! We use Purposity: a platform where you, the student, can anonymously request a need and an anonymous donor can donate directly to you.  Complete our online form to make a request for any items that will help your success, like bedding, clothing, hygiene products, school supplies, etc.
